Automatic Bill Pay

Automatic bank draft, your electric bill can be deducted from your checking account each month automatically

It is a convenient service offered by Woodruff Electric and your bank that allows your payment to be made directly from your checking account without you having to write and mail your check.

It is designed to make bill paying as easy as possible, saving you time, postage and a monthly check.  It’s an easy way to pay your electric bill, and may be used for residential, farm or commercial accounts.

Woodruff Electric will send your electric bill to you at the normal time each month, which is around the 1st of the month for most residential accounts.  Then, on the due date of the bill your account will be “drafted” automatically for the total amount due.

If you have a question or problem with your bill, you have plenty of time to resolve the problem with the member service representatives before the payment is made. If the bill seems accurate, just make a notation in your checkbook and let your bank or credit union pay the bill for you automatically.  The amount of the payment will appear on your next bank statement.

Levelized Billing

If you don’t like surprises, we may have the perfect plan for you.

Levelized Billing lets you predict the future!

With Levelized Billing, you will know what to expect on your electric bill because the amount will be approximately the same month after month — even throughout peak cooling and heating periods. It does not reduce your electric bill, but will smooth out your charges and help you manage your electric bill.

With our Levelized Billing Plan, your electric bill is calculated by adding your current actual electric bill to your previous 11 months total and dividing by 12. The purpose is to help make your electric service costs easier to budget because you receive approximately the same size bill each month. This plan is especially valuable for anyone on a budget or limited income.

There is no charge for using the Levelized Billing Plan. This is a service that we provide to our members to make it easier to budget their electric bills. The minimum requirement for this service is a satisfactory payment history and continuing payment of your monthly billing on or before the due date. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from planning ahead.

The “Basic Service” Charge

Woodruff Electric Cooperative’s basic charge represents your fixed monthly costs consisting of poles, wire, transformers, meters, right-of-way maintenance, property taxes, and other expenses associated with service to a location. These costs occur regardless of the amount of energy purchased or sold. The Public Service Commission (PSC) generally requires that such “customer-related” costs be identified and billed separately from the “energy-related” and “capacity-costs”.

Previously, “customer related” costs were averaged in the kWh charge. During the 1970s energy shortage, utility companies were asked to restructure their consumer rates resulting in a change from “minimum bill” to “basic charge”.

Without the fixed charge, the kWh rate would be higher for all energy, and those using more kWh per month would be subsidizing those using less.

Basic charges among utilities may vary since there are different ideas on how to allocate fixed costs, but each has a basic or fixed charge.
